Research Project

Currently there is an urgent need of early indicators of failing health and aging in the whole organism. Immune cells undergo metabolic shifts to meet the bioenergetic and biosynthetic demands at every stage of their life and to adapt to changes in environmental conditions. Beyond host defense, the metabolic fitness of immune cells seems to be critical for tissue homeostasis and senescence. The overall objective of the current project is to investigate the relationship between immune cells metabolism and frailty states as well as other functional parameters within the Inspire-T prospective cohort (longitudinal cohort (NCT04224038) of patients aged 20-100 and diagnosed as robust, pre-frail and frail (n » 1000).

Scientific environment

The Toulouse Institute for Infectious and Inflammatory Diseases (Infinity) provides resources to conduct cutting-edge research, outstanding intellectual environments and state-of-the-art facilities. The host team is currently composed of 9 members working collaboratively. The research project will be in close collaboration with Dr. Laurent Martinez (Metabolic and Cardiovascular Research Institute (I2MC), Toulouse) and clinicians from the Geroscience research center. The candidate will be supervised by the PI (Dr. Hicham El Costa). The candidate will present her/his work at the weekly lab meeting and monthly seminars.

 Candidate profile

We are seeking a highly motivated researcher able to think critically. The applicant should hold a PhD in immunology with a strong expertise in metabolism of immune cells and multiparametric flow cytometry analyses. Prior experience in bioinformatics/Omics would be highly appreciated. Excellent communication skills, team spirit, capacity to work autonomously and deliver results on time are mandatory.

Contract

We offer a 1-year position (with possible extension for another year); salary follows the Toulouse Hospital University grid based on experience. The candidate is expected to look actively for funding opportunities. Starting date: early 2022.
