SFI was founded in 1966, on the initiative of Pierre Grabar, an internationally renowned immunologist. A few years later, in 1971, SFI was one of the 10 founding national societies of the International Union of Immunological Societies (IUIS), then the European Federation of Immunological Societies (EFIS).
